The Thai Dairy Industry Co., Ltd. was set up in 1962 as a joint venture between Thai
and Malaysian businessmen with the Australian Dairy Corporation and was granted investment promotion privileges by the Board of Investment. The goal of the company was to manufacture dairy products thai would meet international standards in order to improve the health of Thai consumers. The company's factory in Samutprakarn province became the first factory in Thailand to manufacture sweetened condensed milk.
" Mali " Develops Together with the Health of the Thai People
In 1962, General Surajit Charusreni, Minister of Agriculture and Co - operatives, realized
that Thai farmers could produce annually many tons of raw milk. However, there was no Thai company producing any dairy products for Thai people. So, he initiated the establishment of
the first Thai dairy company.
He negotiated with a group of Thai and Malaysian businessmen and the Australian Dairy Produce Board to set up a company name " The Thai Dairy Industry Co.,Ltd. " The company's mission
was to process local raw materials into dairy products with an aim to reduce the country's dependence on imports.
In 1965, construction of the company's plant on Sukhumvit Road in Samutprakarn was completed, and operations commenced with the production of sweetened condensed milk.
It was then that the now familiar " Mali " brandname was introduced to the market for the first time. " Mali " has subsequently become a part of daily life in Thailand, and continuous launches
of new " Mali " brand products into market hace been met with the same wide consumer acceptance as the orginal sweetened condensed milk.
With a steady growth in demand through the years, a new, larger and more advanced plant
has been constructed to take the company into the next century.
